Guiding Paws at the Ballpark

Several members of Guiding Paws attended a baseball double header where the Wilmington Blue Rocks played against the Hub City Spartanburgers. Though the Blue Rocks dropped the first game in a close one, they picked up a win in the second game, 6-0.

Bringing our puppies to Frawley Stadium is a great exposure event. There are crowds, large staircases, and many exciting sounds and smells. Peanuts and crackerjacks may be a thing of the past, but dropped hamburgers and french fries are still a tantalizing distraction our puppies to work hard avoiding. Once we find our seats, the puppies have to practice being in tight quarters while maintaining good behavior. They watch people go by without reacting. For many baseball fans, spring is best observed with the crack of the bat and the cheer of the hometown crowd. Our puppies enjoy becoming accustomed to these random sounds as well with their heads on a swivel. They even get to a see a giant blue moose mascot!

Furthermore, the stadium is in the Riverfront section of the city of Wilmington. The first baseline has a wonderful vantage point for viewing and hearing I-95 traffic whizzing by. A city exposure is a new setting for many of our puppies, but vitally important since many visually impaired people live and work in cities.

Over the years, Guiding Paws and other TSE clubs have attended countless Blue Rocks games. We thank the Wilmington Blue Rocks for consistently allowing us to bring the pups and cheer along.
