Guiding Paws at PHL

This past weekend, Guiding Paws of Delaware, along with several other Seeing Eye puppy clubs, had the exciting opportunity to tour the Philadelphia International Airport. The visit was designed to give our puppies valuable exposure to the busy sights, sounds, and experiences of a major travel hub. This event helps prepare the dogs as Seeing Eye graduates rely on this organization to gain greater independence and confidence in travel, both domestic and international.

The airport tour provided countless benefits for both the puppies and their handlers. Navigating crowds, loud announcements, rolling luggage, and security checkpoints offered the dogs a chance to practice calm focus in environments full of distractions. These experiences build confidence, resilience, and adaptability, traits that will serve them well when they become working Seeing Eye dogs. For our volunteers, the tour was equally valuable, offering opportunities to observe how the puppies respond to new situations and reinforce training techniques we practice each day. This is a valuable activity for the staff at PHL to learn more about guide dogs and have a deeper connection to the impact of service animals in the airport.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Philadelphia International Airport Guest Relations department and the airline partner Frontier who welcomed us this year. Their generosity in opening doors to this unique training opportunity helps pave the way for our puppies to grow into confident, capable Seeing Eye dogs. We are grateful for their support in our mission to empower independence and mobility for those who are blind or visually impaired.
