About Guiding Paws of Delaware

We are Guiding Paws of Delaware, a Seeing Eye puppy raising club in New Castle County, Delaware. Our club includes puppy raisers, their families, and puppy sitters. We raise puppies to become guide dogs for The Seeing Eye. This organization is located in Morristown, NJ. It is the oldest guide dog school and was founded in 1929. The organization needs volunteers to care for puppies until they are ready for training. Puppy raisers can be as young as nine or adults, and many families raise a puppy together for extra support.

Training

Our club meets once per month for an in-person meeting. Our raisers do a “training circle” activity with their puppies to develop their skills and confidence. The dogs learn basic commands.

Puppies at a club meeting are practicing the “down” and “rest” command. From front to back, puppies pictured are Timmy, Arrow, Phoenix, and Ella.
Additionally, our club organizes monthly outings. These outings expose puppies to diverse social environments, like shopping malls, movie theaters, museums, parks, and more.
